Social Media Visual Strategy

Sheli Cordero, President, Station 11 Consulting

With so many companies competing for the same audience on social media, your visual strategy is the gateway to spark engagement, giving users a reason to follow, like, comment, and ultimately work with you.

While content may be king, without an attention-grabbing visual strategy, they’ll never stop to read your message. Let’s look at ways to create a smart visual strategy for your social media pages.

Grab Their Attention

Think about what makes you stop scrolling to read a post.

Interesting Headlines

Don't be afraid to get a little creative! Make your headlines exciting and unique, but informative and on topic so the reader wants to engage. For example, instead of "Wire Fraud Attempt Prevented," use "How an Escrow Officer Foiled a $2.7 Million Fraud Attempt."

Eye-Catching Graphics

With attention spans shrinking and thumbs scrolling at lightning speed, you need eye-catching visuals to get readers to stop. Experiment with different formats and styles. Professional stock photography and graphics give a polished professional look, while playful images and memes add a lighthearted touch. Infographics, charts, and diagrams deliver a lot of information in a simplified, easy-to-read, and easy-to-understand format.

Short-Form Videos

Videos bring your post to life, tell a story, and convey emotion. As the top trend among social media users, videos should be informative and dynamic, but not long. In fact, videos that last less than one minute see the highest engagement, so shorter is better. Here are a few topic ideas for your short-form videos:

  • Education: The different types of title policies and how they protect homeowners, the title search process, typical documents needed to close, and cyber/wire fraud.

  • Tips and Tricks: How to prepare for a smooth closing, the technology needed for an eSigning, or mistakes to avoid (such as buying a new car two days before closing).

  • Testimonials: Ask your favorite real estate agents for a quick video testimonial after your next closing to build trust and credibility with potential clients, giving them real-life examples of your superior closing services.

  • Behind the Scenes: Give your audience a peek under the hood and let them see what drives your operation. Share candid photos and videos from staff meetings, employee appreciation lunches, and other functions. Let your audience connect on a personal level with your company culture and team.

Animated videos are a great way to explain complex topics in a simple, fun, easy-to-understand format.

Lighten the Mood

Users are more likely to remember and share something that makes them laugh or feel good. While no one is suggesting you post every meme under the sun, a little levity can go a long way in humanizing your brand. Just make sure to consider the platform, your audience, your brand, and the tone of the content; what one person finds funny might not go over well with someone else.

If you’re charged with posting content on behalf of your company, be mindful of branding and content guidelines, including approved colors, fonts, and logo variations.
